The North-East Region Open Youth Championships saw talent from teenage swimmers who performed outstandingly over the bank-holiday weekend.
The three day event was held at the Ponds Forge International Sports Centre in Sheffield and was hosted by Rotherham Metro Swimming Club.
The club saw several achievements throughout the competition. One of the under 16 swimmers successfully broke multiple club records.
James Fisher, 43, Chairperson of Rotherham Metro Swimming Club from Rawmarsh, Rotherham, said: “These competitions make our swimmers really resilient and prepares them really well for life.”
Swimmers require a lot of dedication to participate in this sport.
James said: “It’s not just the sporting side, it’s also the mental well-being side.”
The swimming club is a competitive South Yorkshire club which caters to swimmers from the ages seven to eighty years old.
Jackie White, 23, caterer from Bilston Street, Hillsborough, said: “It was definitely worth it going down just to support because I know how much hard work it takes to participate in these events.”
Olivia Scrimshaw, 69, retired teacher from Gresham Road, Walkley, said: “I wasn’t able to go to the event this year but hearing all about it definitely means I missed out.”
One under 16 swimmer broke records in the 100 metre free and the 50 metre backstroke races.
Numerous silver and bronze medals were awarded to the swimmers who participated in a range of events.
More regional medals were awarded to swimmers in over 17 and under 16 events.
The swimming club congratulated all swimmers who participated on their achievements through Facebook.
Rotherham Metro Swimming Club on Facebook, wrote: “You are having amazing journeys at the moment and this is just another chapter in your book!”
The event was live streamed and live results were uploaded online, so those who couldn’t attend the event were able to stay updated.
Rotherham Metro Swimming Club will be hosting several gala events at the Ponds Forge in Sheffield. The spring long course level 3 Meet is scheduled for May 13th and 14th.
