Charity fashion show Runway Idol is back this year for its fifth and final show this summer after raising over £20,000 for various charities over the years.
Events organiser James Clarke, who suffers from a rare eye condition and has been banned from driving, has raised over £100,000 for Retina UK, a national sight loss charity that supports people affected by inherited sight loss. Therefore this year’s Runway Idol will be dedicated to Retina UK.
After raising money for many other charities, James explained the importance of Runway Idol.
He said: “I wanted to do an event in Sheffield, I wanted to give an event where everybody could model and it doesn’t have to be the stereotypical modelling.”
He said that the show has had so much diversity and helped the models who audition for the show to raise their confidence and it’s an amazing and comfortable place for the people involved as well as the spectators.
Runway Idol is a fashion show where 20 local people are given the opportunity to take the stage at Hillsborough stadium and model clothing from popular fashion brands such as Couture Club, In The Style, Odd Balls and many more.
It also supports independent store such as Reece Ford Suit Hire & House Of Rose Bespoke.
These 20 people will be modelling in front of 300 locals and special guests in a hope to raise £5,00 on its last show.
Since 2018, Runway Idol has helped raise money for various charities such as Cancer Research UK, Dementia UK, Imogen’s Dream, The UK Sepsis Trust, Sheffield MIND & The Children’s Hospital Charity.
James said: “There have been people involved who have survived breast cancer and survived domestic abuse and they have used the show as a way to face their insecurities.”
