Police investigating shooting in Rotherham which left man in critical condition in hospital arrest 21-year-old man

Detectives have arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder after a shooting in Rotherham at the weekend.

South Yorkshire Police has asked for witnesses to come forward after a man in his 20s was found with wounds in Winifred Street on Saturday.

Police received a call at 2.33pm and found the victim with wounds to his back and leg.

He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition. Both Yorkshire Ambulance Service and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance attended the scene.

Investigating Officer Detective Sergeant Janine Broughton said: “We are aware that an incident of this nature will be concerning to our communities and local residents within the area.

“Our investigation is in its early stages, we have already made one arrest, a 21-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder and I offer my reassurance that officers and detectives are working hard to find those responsible.”

She added: “We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time, may have dash-cam footage or any information that may be able to help with our enquiries.”

Police presence has been increased in the area and South Yorkshire police urge residents to speak to them if they have any concerns.
