24-year-old man to appear in court charged with attempted murder following Sheffield city centre stabbing

A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder and will appear at the Sheffield Magistrates’ Court after a stabbing on Fargate.

Emergency services, including South Yorkshire Police, arrived at Sheffield city centre just before 10pm on Friday, 17 March, following reports of a stabbing of a 56 year old man.

The victim was quickly taken to the hospital, where he remains in a stable but critical condition.

Police officers arrested Dominic Pecha, 24, of no fixed address shortly after the incident. He has since then been remanded into police custody.

Pecha has been charged with attempted murder and is due to appear at the Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 20 March.

A post on social media, published Saturday, 18 March, showed a police van parked outside of Boots, where officers stood guard by a cordon.

Cordons remained in place on Fargate, extending down Chapel Walk, until Saturday afternoon. Neighbourhood officers remained in the area over the day to reassure the community.
