Owner of new Woodseats bar promises to be ‘cheaper than competitors’ to support community

A new bar has opened in a Sheffield suburb in a bid to support residents during the cost of living crisis.

The Bulldog Value Bar officially opened last week on Chesterfield Road, Woodseats, to replace the Sports Shack sports bar.

The bar said that it will price-match the cost of drinks at Wetherspoons and other competitors.

On Facebook the bar also says “Love us or hate us, this bar is for the community”.

It has also expressed how it welcomes people even if they aren’t purchasing food or drink.

Owner of the bar, Danny Grayson who has 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry, said:  “It’s a year of cutting back with bills going through the roof. People are finding it hard to come out, relax and forget about the pressures that they face.”

Danny, who also owns Sports Shack Sports bars, said: “Here at The Bulldog Value Bar we will be cheaper than many of our competitors or we will price match them.

“We will be providing excellent value on our drinks and food but also we will have music, TVs and more importantly a good atmosphere.”

A post on the bar’s Facebook page says: “We want to make coming out and socialising affordable for everyone. We will also be offering a warm space so even if you don’t want food or a drink please pop in for a chat and get warm.”

Alongside the emphasis on reasonable prices the bar has also announced that there will be a raffle every Saturday. Customers will receive one ticket per drink, with the prize being a £25 bar tab.

Kelly Turton, a customer who won the first raffle, said: “We will return to make use of our winnings, and would probably return even if we hadn’t won the raffle.”

The 39-year-old added: “It is a great little bar and I’m very impressed with how welcoming they were as we were a big group in a small bar with kids.”

All-day breakfast and brunch is served until 5pm. The bar also serves meal deals for £5.99 which include paninis, hot dogs, nachos, with crisps, nuts or scratchings accompanied by a drink.

The bar offers a range of drinks including beers and juice along with a two for £10 deal on cocktails.

The bar is open until 23.30pm from Thursdays and Saturdays and 9pm on Sundays.
