Family’s tribute to dad who died in car collision

A man who died in a collision on Friday after suffering fatal injuries has been described by his family as a ‘proud father and devoted husband’.

Martin Bembridge, 54, had been driving his silver Toyota Yaris when it was in a collision involving a black Ford Mondeo and white Ford Transit van.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Dyke Vale Road and Silkstone Road at 1.10pm. His family were notified soon after.

A 19 year old man who was driving the Mondeo has been arrested on suspicion of death caused by dangerous driving, driving while over the limit of prescribed drugs and taking the vehicle without consent. He has been bailed with further enquiries.

In a tribute to Martin, his family said that he was a proud father, a devoted husband, a caring son and a loving brother.

They said: “He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends for his warmth, kindness and sense of humour.

“Martin will never be forgotten and he will always be loved by so many.”

South Yorkshire Police have been appealing for any witnesses of the scene to come forward, particularly any motorists who may have dashcam footage, as well as local residents who may have any CCTV or doorbell footage.

They ask anyone who may have information to contact them via webchat, their online portal or emailing enquiries@southyorks.pnn.police.uk. Alternatively, call 101 quoting incident number 330 of 10 February 2023.
