Youth Athletics National Championships action at Sheffield’s English Institute of Sport

The England Athletics national championships for the under 20, under 17 and under 15 age groups took place this weekend at the English Institute of Sport in Attercliffe.

The weekend’s championships are always an important part of the athletics calendar, with many young athletes having their first experience of elite competition.

The 46 races and 30 field events that took place over the weekend saw some impressive performances.

On Saturday, Medwin Odamitten achieved a time of 6.67 seconds in the U20 men’s final, narrowly missing the championships record of 6.66.

Kitty Laurence, from Worksop, secured three personal best distances in the U15 girls’ high jump.

Sheffield athlete Will Lane won the U15 boys’ pole vault on Sunday, with a personal best jump of 4.86 metres.

Sheffield also saw success in the U15 boys’ Shot Putt with a bronze medal for Sheffielder Harry Beard.

The home training base of multiple Olympians, the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield has previously hosted the Aviva Indoor European Athletics Trials and will host the British Master’s Indoor Athletics Championships later this month.
