An Indian restaurant and take-away in Woodseats has reached the finals of the 1st Nations’ Curry Awards.
Viraaj on Chesterfield Road in Woodseats was nominated by its customers to go to the ceremony in Manchester, on 20 February, in the hopes of winning the Indian Restaurant of the Year award, in the North category.
The black-tie event is something that those working at Viraaj are looking forward to, with a spokesperson saying that they are taking this award “seriously“.
The event has been organised by Oceanic Consulting, who claim that: “The awards highlight the growth of the Asian curry sector and recognise the achievements of those who work their hardest to perfect every meal. Those rewarded, will include chefs, restaurants, managers, takeaways, teams and curry schools.”
Viraaj are actually no strangers to winning accolades. In 2021, the restaurant won the Most Wanted Restaurant of the Year in the Yorkshire and Humberside category in the English Curry Awards. IN addition, just a few years prior in 2017, Viraaj won Restaurant of the Year in the Yorkshire category, also in the English Curry Awards.
This restaurant is the only representative for Yorkshire in its respective category however, Prithiraj, in Sharrow, is amongst the nominees for the Curry Restaurant of the Year.
Similarly, Prithiraj faces no competition from any take-away in Yorkshire so it could be safe to say that Sheffield is certainly flying the flag for Yorkshire in the Nations’ Curry Awards.
