Police appeal for witnesses following rape of 19 year old in Barnsley

South Yorkshire Police are appealing for information and seeking witnesses following reports of a rape in Wombwell, Barnsley.

It is reported that a 19-year-old woman was attacked at approximately 2am on Friday 22 April, just off Bradberry Balk Lane on the Trans Pennine Trail.

The attacker was an unknown man who is described as being white and possibly in his 20s.

PC Dan Morley, investigating the case, said: “This was an extremely concerning incident and the woman involved has been left very distressed.

“She is being supported by specially trained officers and an investigation is underway to trace the suspect.”

He added: “As part of our inquiries, we are eager to trace three individuals who we believe spoke to the victim near the Lidl store on Bradberry Balk Lane prior to this incident taking place.”

The three individuals are believed to be two men and a woman who were walking two large dogs at the time.

Police are urging these individuals to get in touch as officers believe they may be able to greatly assist with their inquiries.
