“Rebel With A Cause” programme of films to premiere at The Showroom

A film programme curated by university students is to be screened at the Showroom Cinema at 10am on 28 March, 2022.

A group of Film Studies students from Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) has organised the event called ‘Rebel With A Cause’ in partnership with Sheffield Docfest.

Sheffield Docfest is an annual international documentary festival that showcases the work of documentary filmmakers. It is to take place between 23 and 25 June this year.

Sarah Curtis, 52, Brett Marsden, 21, Jess Campbell, 26, Sophie Challis, 22 and Ralph Whittall, 22, are Sheffield Docfest’s 2022 Future Film Programmers who have been curating the program since September 2021.

In line with the theme of “rebellion” the program will feature “Eve”, a short documentary about climate change and “Thank You for the Rain”, a film about a Kenyan farmer’s journey towards securing climate justice for his community.

Ms Curtis, from Sheffield, said: “Climate change is so important and we’d love people to come to our screening and hopefully they can walk away with more information and become active.

“We want people to hopefully be inspired to go onto some sort of activism through the festival we’ve curated.”

Ms Curtis said the group wanted the programme to be screened in the morning to encourage young children and students to attend. She also said thought was given to ensure the programme was inclusive.

She said: “We wanted it to be culturally diverse and gender diverse.”

“Rebel With A Cause” is open to anyone and tickets are available at: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/shu-future-film-programmers-showcase-tickets-303909480437
