“DAYLIGHT ROBBERY!”: Tesco Meal Deal rises by 50p

The widely popular Meal Deal consisting of a snack, a sandwich and drink, is a notorious UK favourite thanks to its value for money and all-round convenience.

This price rise means competitors such as Morrisons’ £3 Meal Deal and Boots’ £3.49 version appear more favourable as people search for a better alternative.

Kyle Traill, 20, student and customer of Tesco, said: “It’s daylight robbery, especially when other supermarkets are cheaper than that.”

Will Oliphant, 41, university lecturer said : “I am so angry.”

Aidan Smith, 18, a journalism student, added: “That’s £2.50 a week. It’s really hard for students.”

Whilst many will be outraged by the price change, others are unfazed by the price rise.

Martha Pollard, 42, Tesco customer said: “an extra 50p won’t stop me buying a Tesco Meal deal they are still great value for money.”

For now, the price will remain at £3 for those who are signed up for a Tesco Clubcard, making this the perfect way for Tesco to drive further traffic onto their already popular Clubcard scheme.

Joe Ducker, 37, of Ecclesall, said: “I use my Clubcard all the time, it’s just a cheap way of getting people to get a Clubcard.”

To comfort the blow, Tesco has introduced Costa regular drinks at more than 2,000 of our stores for 12 weeks from 28th February 2022.

The potential loss of customers is not the only negative impact as a result of this change, the Tesco PLC stock has also fallen by 1.10% since yesterday’s implementation at the time of writing.

Alessandra Bellini, Tesco’s Chief Customer Officer, said: “Adding our ever-popular lunchtime meal deal to Clubcard Prices is the latest way we’re rewarding our 20 million Clubcard members with exclusive deals on thousands of products.

“Clubcard Prices have already given millions of customers the power to lower the cost of their weekly shop – and all while earning points for money off their shopping or rewards like family days out at Alton Towers or a Disney+ subscription.

“There are hundreds of products included in the lunchtime meal deal which means more than 10 million delicious combinations available across more than 2,700 of our stores – all for £3 –  offering unrivalled choice and availability for our customers.”
