Grassroots sport returns across England

Players and coaches have welcomed the return of grassroots sport across England as part of the government’s roadmap out of lockdown.

Football is the most popular sport in England with almost 1.9m people playing at least twice a month in 2020.

England was thrown into lockdown at the start of 2021 which saw the suspension of all grassroots sport and leaving many leagues behind schedule, which was already affected by the lockdown last November

Mark Cox, Chairman of Southbury Youth FC in North London, said: “I am so pleased that some of the leagues have actually enabled the season to be completed.

“This is not without their challenges but it is all coming together and I think everyone is really enjoying finishing off the season.”
