Man Charged After Distraction Burglary on Elderly Couple

Police crime scene

A man has been charged over a distraction burglary in Sheffield in which a large amount of cash was stolen from an elderly couple.

Wilf Mole, of Heath Road, Durham, is alleged to have called at a house in Wadsley with another man on Monday, March 8 and offered to carry out repairs to an elderly couple’s roof and guttering.

When the woman opted to turn down their offer, one of the men is alleged to have distracted her before stealing a large quantity of cash.

Mole, aged 42, has been charged with burglary over the incident as well as burglary, criminal damage and fraud by misrepresentation over an incident on March 2.

Detective Sergeant Lee Corker said: “If someone approaches you and asks to carry out work on your property, please check their ID and do not accept work from people who come knocking on your door.

“If you have elderly or vulnerable friends, relatives or neighbours, please pass on this information.”
