Sheffield TV Presenter Charlie Webster is thriving after battle against malaria

A television sports presenter from Sheffield is returning home after making a full recovery from malaria.

Charlie Webster, 34, of Crookes, Sheffield became unwell after watching the Olympic opening ceremony in Rio, in August 2016.

She was placed in an induced coma to improve her chances of survival after being diagnosed in a Brazilian hospital. Webster has previously presented for Real Madrid TV, ESPN and Sky Sports. She was due to interview the Olympic athletes for Facebook, but fell ill after her 3,000-mile charity bike ride from Britain to Brazil.

Webster is a new ambassador for Malaria No More UK and continues to raise awareness and fight against the disease.

She has described herself as fit and healthy, sharing videos on social media of her running on the beach in Valencia, and is now on her way back to England.
